Why we created this project

Imagine Sonoma County is a space to envision the changes and push forward policy proposals that will contribute to solving the climate crisis by eliminating Sonoma County's carbon emissions by 2030.

Our intentions are several: first, we want to encourage the creative juices to flow, both our own and those of our fellow climate activists, elected leaders, and other community members working toward a more equitable, joyful and resilient zero-carbon future for Sonoma County.

We will also share our out-of-the-box vision of a future Sonoma County and our policy proposals with City Councils, Planning Commissions, General Plan update staff, County Supervisors, and others. We hope to integrate their responses and feedback into an emerging vision of the future, as well as influence the course of their decisions.

This is meant to be a living website, not a static document. We hope you will participate and view it as a community space where ideas can be tested, reviewed and incubated.

How to use the website

1) Guide the Vision. Help us craft a carbon-free vision for 2030! Look through the vision pages and help us bubble up the most popular ideas by using the thumbs-up and comment features to give specific suggestions on the vision. Notice specific deadlines for visioning sessions.

2) Craft Policy.   Browse the policy pages and help us bubble up the most popular ideas by using the thumbs-up and comment features to give specific suggestions on listed policies. If you or an organization you work with have been thinking about climate solutions, tell us your policy/action ideas.

3) Create Art (and get inspired by it.)   Are you an artist? (The answer is yes, of course! We all are!) Send us your renditions of 2030 so we can add them to our collection of "sketches", whether it's an improved version of the street you live on, or one of the farms that will grow our food, or the public transit of the future, or an inspiring song or poem you wrote. Help us bring the vision to life!

4) Urge Leaders.   Send policy ideas you like to your local elected representatives--and share on social media! Find email & phone contacts here! (City Council, County Supervisor, etc.) Participate in government and activist meetings.

5) Connect & Collaborate.   Join forces with others to act during this moment of great peril and great potential! Learn about other local groups. Check the calendar for upcoming meetings and events. Familiarize yourself with additional resources.
