Active-transportation-centric planning to replace car-centric planning of the past. Communities will make it possible to live and work without owning a car, instead relying on active transportation (such as bicycling and walking) and public transportation. This type of planning will bring about safer streets through a variety of techniques including protected bicycle routes and narrower car traffic lanes. Narrow traffic lanes result in slower travel speeds, fewer accidents, more space for active transportation modes, and a greater sense of safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and others. Check out the transportation vision for more about active transportation.

The bus system is weird, with two large entities (County and Santa Rosa) who do not coordinate well. These systems should be merged to give better service to all.
We need to invest much more heavily in public transportation. A car sharing system (not the gig economy system of Lyft or that other one) should be set for a pilot in the coming year.
Cars need to be eliminated from city streets altogether except for emergency vehicles. Rural residents who live too far from transit corridors can be accommodated with park and ride lots at rural transit stops. Tourists can be accommodated by cooperating with other bay area communities to connect SMART to BART and Amtrak.
