We want to make known the values and beliefs that we bring to this incredible challenge. Others might see them as biases and prejudices. Let's see where we agree and where we disagree.

1. It's an existential crisis. The climate crisis, together with the steady degradation of the biosphere, threatens the future of the human species.
2. We're all in this together. We are all allies in this fight for a livable planet.
3. All-hands-on-deck. Our collective response to the climate crisis calls for concurrent efforts in the areas of mitigation, sequestration ("drawdown"), and adaptation("resilience.")
4. Nature works. We believe that the worldview characterized as "Man in control of Nature" is a failed paradigm. We must think of our species as a humble and dependent part of a complex web of life.
5. Address root causes. When looking for solutions to a problem, we would be wise to address the root source, not symptoms.
6. We humbly acknowledge and respect indigenous wisdom. Sonoma County encompasses regions that include the traditional homelands of the Pomo, Coast Miwok, and Wappo people. We strive to recognize and learn from their past and continued efforts to tend the Earth.
7. Endless growth on a finite planet is folly. We resolve to live within the means of Nature.
8. Embrace diversity. All members of the human family are all deeply connected. All of our decisions will be guided by the interests of the entire human family.
9. Equity. Climate change affects first and most severely those least advantaged and least responsible for causing it. We will craft progressive solutions to address deep structural inequities.
10. We want to leave our children and future generations a healthy, supportive planet. This requires long-term thinking. The Industrial Age got into full steam around seven generations ago. All of our decisions will take into account the interests and well-being of the next seven generations.
11. Think globally, act locally. Even though many relevant policy matters are beyond local control, we recognize our responsibility to craft meaningful local responses.
12. Honesty is the best policy. We commit to candor and honesty in all of our actions and communications.
13. Joy! The climate crisis presents both challenges and opportunities. We remind ourselves to redirect our attention from doom-and-gloom to joy.
