Local purchases that dominate over Amazon or other out-of-community internet purchases. Locally spent dollars recirculate to support the community. The local economy is stimulated and strengthened by a local internet marketplace that allows internet shopping to continue while sending local dollars to local businesses.

While delivery of some items is critical for some people, for most it just encourages buying too much stuff and the increased carbon foot print is huge. Buying fewer, higher quality items that last longer locally would have far less impact on the environment. Support GoLocal!

I think that many people aren't going to stop shopping at Amazon. So maybe we should start incorporating local businesses into the Amazon website. Doing this would entail that you would purchase the item trough Amazon and then Amazon would buy the item from the local business. Therefore the business would get some of the money and so would Amazon. This would help support local business and make it so people don't need to leave there house.

If you have read the full vision, you have seen is that the idea is to have small businesses of all kinds up and down every street. This is the kind of pre-corporate capitalism that Adam Smith imagined. In fact, in his later writings, Smith advocated making corporations illegal. I'm not sure I would go that far. There are some things, such as vaccines, that seem to be something that corporations can do much more quickly in emergencies than local small businesses. But for most things, I would say that the corporate approach is downright destructive. I would very much prefer to walk to the corner store to buy my clothes from a local tailor or seamstress, my shoes from a local shoemaker, my food from local farmers and etc. What this accomplishes is that we buy locally made products from locally produced materials and avoid using the energy that it takes to have stuff delivered from who knows where. It also fosters the feelings of community one gets when one actually interacts with one's neighbors rather than seeing them as obstacles to pass on your way to wherever you're going. It is a better way both economically and spiritually.

Or better yet - maybe we can come up with some sort of local distribution system that can offer quick deliveries and compete with Amazon.
